50th year of independant our beloved nation Malaysia with the efforts from our leaders signifies the current state of economic well being and the improves standard of living. Comparatively we Malaysian are very much better - off to that of Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Burma, Philipine and the other south east asian nations. The year of 70s, especially towards the end the government move the country forward into an industrial nation. To foster better economic growth and provides more opportunity for employment to the citizen. Foreign direct investment is always the major agenda in encouraging investor to come to Malaysia.
Infrastructures such as highways, new industrial zones and with further form of tax incentive to facilitate foreign investment into the country. Objectives and the efforts from the various government agencies in realising any form of investment thus ensuring consistent flow of capital venture into the country. During the early years of the 80s, with the mushrooming of industries, manufacturing and service related businesses magnifest the change in workforce landscape. When the electronic industries make an inroad into this country, gender differentiation in workforce took a new direction, we observed more women is now working within this sector. Abundance of job opportunities and the low percentage of illiteracy provides the industries with ready available human resource.
That's the success story and the change of social landscape conforming to equal opportunity for both gender, so with equitable remuneration for every workman and woman.
For about two decades of sacrifies and commitment, are these group of people being recognise? Have any NGOs or even the government agency give a serious thought about their plight sinced the recession of 1997. What's the role of the labor department? Are they looking into this issue in a more organize manner? For what we all know, non of these electronic industry sector are allowed to form a worker's union. A clear form of injustice which basically not in line with the constitutional right of the raayat. A blantant disregard of workers rights and justice to the working class.
For more than two decades, big names such as National now Panasonic, Samsung, Intel,Siemen, GEs, Motorola, Texas Instrument and many more make this country another electronic manufacturing locality out of US silicon valley and Japan. They are here due to the favorable investor environment, cheap literate workforce and a full scale tax incentive. For many years the local workforce have been contributing to the well being of these coporates entities. For over 20 years of existence in this country, what kind of benefit that the nation acquires? Knowledge transfer? Technology transfer? Manufacturing and management expertise? What else? How about research and development benefiting the locals? Basically nothing. Except for job opportunies which are now taking a declining chance for the local work force .
What the future hold is full with uncharted or rather a precarious worklife journey.
