Entering this new year -2009 with less to nothing of exciting, with worries and despairation on what to expect. Towards the end of 2008, we have been told what the future might hold, where, by mid to end 2009 the real nightmare with regards to the state economy of the country will be fully realized - for better or for worse. Few days ago, from most of the mainstream media we heard numerous form thoughts, perceptions with not so positive of an outlook towards the economy. The private sector will be the most badly affected. Though it was rather premature to put a figure the magnitude of retrenchment, temporary lay-off and winding off businesses. We could recalled, almost a similar form of reaction and pre-emptive assumption by the Malaysian Employers Federation spoke person during the 1997-1998 economic downturn.
Malaysia have been through, economic downturn in the 80's and 1997-1998 where the ringgit was pegged to the greenbag, while international money traders are not allowed for quite sometime to have their offices here, however this was lifted off 2007. Few start to come back and re-established themselves. Those are mainly big player of the world and what their state of affair currently, since the financial crisis in US see no...hear no...
Generally, we manage to scrap through crisis and withered the implication in short duration much to the strong economic fundamental and with rather a good management of the economy so with the handling the financial affair of the country.
However, the recent - assesment and evaluation of the state of the economy in 2009, projecting the kind of gloomy year thus employers seem easily motivated moving towards a negative perception. This is true enough on how at ease they are in uttering those terms much favored by the capitalist mind, such as retrenchment, layoff, downsizing, re-positioning, consolidating, mergers and so on so forth.
At time we just wonder, the word "only you can change for a better life and nobody can". Its really a dishearthening sight to look at a worker, who have spend their productivity years, time, energy, sweat and blood contributing successes after successes of a company but at certain point of their working life they are no more required - only to fill the quota of retrenchment numbers, lay off and downsizing.
The question are, where are we going from here? Who should be responsible for all these social folly? The governmenr roles in mitigating this crisis?
